Description:
In this session, we will briefly review maternal physiology. We will examine challenges in the management of peripartum and postpartum hemorrhage in the field. Discussion pertaining to basic and advanced treatments of hemorrhage. We will also review Maternal Cardiac Arrest with a focus on modifications for resuscitation and the process of resuscitative cesarean delivery.
Objectives:

Describe the anatomical and physiological changes during pregnancy

Discuss challenges that EMS may encounter when responding to home birth.

Review the definitions, causes and treatment of hemorrhage in EMS and the hospital setting.

Discuss maternal cardiac arrest including most likely causes.

Describe resuscitative cesarean delivery and its purpose.
Faculty Bio:
Eryn Hart, DO, FACOG, NREMT is a Maternal Fetal Medicine Physician with expertise in Critical Care Obstetrics, EMS, and Simulation. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine for MSU/Corewell Health in Grand Rapids, MI. She is the OB coordinator for the OB/Gyn residency program. Her clinical interest is in EMS/ER education in OB Emergencies. She was a Paramedic for 8 years prior to becoming a physician and recently reacquired her NREMT. She completed her residency in OB/Gyn at MSU/Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, MI and MFM fellowship at UTMB in Galveston, Texas. She was active-duty Navy for 10 years and continues to serve in the Reserves at the rank of Captain. She has received numerous teaching awards and continues her effort to improve the care of obstetric patients in EMS Journals.
